As part of a newly-funded International Wheat Yield Partnership program, four Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Fellow positions are available at the Australian National University. Projects will focus on genetic variation, gene expression, metabolism and growth studies with the high throughput analysis of photosynthesis and respiration in order to screen wheat germplasm from field trials in Australia and Mexico to identify new opportunities for wheat improvement through selective breeding for Energy Use Efficiency (EUE).
The following positions will conduct laboratory and field-based research designed to deliver breakthroughs in wheat yield increases by linking genetic variation in yield, vegetative growth and biomass production to respiratory rate, capacity and substrate and by defining a series of powerful EUE traits for prebreeding:
Position 1: Crop physiologist with experience in respiration and growth analysis
Position 2: Molecular biologist/crop geneticist with experience in RNAseq, line selection, development of the SNPs & genotyping pipelines.
Position 3: Statistical geneticist/bioinformatician with experience in data analysis pipelines, mapping QTL discovery/validation, and genomic selection.
Position 4: Systems biologist with experience in integrative wheat genetics/prebreeding.
