Safety Case Engineer – Key Hazard Areas

Fixed-term role until March 2017
Opportunity to make a difference at Australia’s largest defence project

An opportunity now exists for a systems engineer with a safety focus to join our Air Warfare Destroyer team at our Techport offices in North Osborne, South Australia.  Accountable to the System Safety Program Manager, the Safety Case Engineer – Key Hazard Areas will ensure that an adequate safety argument is put forward so the risk presented to personnel during the program key event milestones, use of the land based facilities and during ship construction will be minimised.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, prototype, propose, gain agreement and execute new, novel and leaner methods to achieve the work scope with support from the SST management team
Review hazard analyses, treatments and supporting documentation to provide assurance that ALARP arguments are robust and correct
Assist audits of supporting System Safety activities and received deliverables
Act as an advocate of the System Safety Program, communicating the strategy, plan and status of the system safety tasks to internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Engineering degree with eligibility to be a member of IEAust and CPEng
Three years demonstrated relevant experience in a Defence engineering environment
Comprehensive understanding of safety processes, legislation and standards such as Mil Std 882C, ABR 6492 and ABR 6303
Previous experience carrying out hazard identification and analysis, including HHA, OSHA, SSHA  and SHA
Able to operate in high pressure environments and meet critical deadlines
Ability to influence a wide variety of stakeholders
Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence security clearance to the Negative Vetting One level
