The Fenner School of Environment and Society (FSES) conducts world-class research in the field of atmospheric science, with a rapidly growing research group led by Dr Nicholas Engerer which is focused on the modelling and forecasting of atmospheric radiation and distributed PV power production with numerous industry partnerships.

This position is in direct support of an Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) funded project titled “Real-time Distributed PV Simulations for Distribution Network Service Providers (DNSPs)”. The project will deliver distributed PV simulations and forecasts in real-time to 11 electricity utilities across Australia with the primary goal of raising the maximum penetration of distributed PV systems on these networks. It will also feature strong collaborative efforts with solar forecasting and modelling company Solcast, who is a partner in this effort.

Position Overview
As Senior Software and Data Engineer, you will be designing the data flows and maintaining the databases required to ingest large amounts of real-time solar power output data from tens of thousands of PV systems across Australia. You will also work on building code repositories that offer integrations for our solar forecasting research outcomes with the software used by the partnering electrical utilities. The successful applicant will have extensive experience in Java and C# programming languages, as well as Linux based operating systems, with preferred experience in Object Relational Mappers (ORMs) and SQL.
