Director of Practical Legal Training – Mahlab – Melbourne

Based in Melbourne CBD, our client is truly proud of their offering, is passionate, innovative and has a strong performance resolve.  It now wishes to recruit for the position of Director of Practical Legal Training.

Reporting to the Executive Director and ultimately the Board of the Leo Cussen Centre for Law, you will form part of the senior management team.  You will be responsible for providing educational and strategic leadership and will contribute to the overall strategic, educational and business development of the organisation.  Your responsibilities will include: leading the ongoing curriculum review; managing the planning and development of the courses; supervising the selection and enrolment of students into the course; supervising teaching staff to maintain performance and to develop their educational expertise; providing effective leadership to and managing the Practical Legal Training department; investigating and determining any action regarding standard performance issues involving students; and monitoring and controlling expenditure relating to the course.  You will be responsible for leading the development of all staff in your department.

The ideal candidate for this role will hold a law degree and, ideally, a Bachelors degree or higher level qualification in an educational discipline.  Tertiary qualifications in business, management or a related discipline is desirable but not essential.   A current legal practising certificate is not required for this role.

You offer experience in legal education and have, at some time in your career, practised as a lawyer.  In addition, you will also have experience in managing and developing staff, and in developing and leading new programs and projects to meet business and educational needs.

You are organised, enthusiastic, dynamic and have strong communication skills.  Further, you bring a pragmatic approach, an enjoyment of a high level of responsibility, flexibility and adaptability.
