THE POSITION

Your job as Development & Production Manager is simple – help us find, develop and deliver in Queensland the best stories for feature film, television, and online audiences in Australia and worldwide.  You will work as part of the Development & Production team in supporting projects from concept to screen.

You will be a passionate and committed screen professional, and an advocate for the Queensland screen industry, with the ability to:

identify strong and distinctive ideas with the potential to achieve critical and commercial success, in Australia and internationally, and practitioners with the talent and skills to reach those audiences

assess and make recommendations on the value of investment

contribute ideas and expertise to a range of development and production initiatives

negotiate and communicate effectively with partners and practitioners throughout the assessment, development and production process

work towards the growth of the screen industry in Queensland, helping to shape it as an even stronger part of the wider Australian industry

ABOUT SCREEN QUEENSLAND

Screen Queensland is a government-owned company based in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast, set up to support and promote a creative, innovative and successful screen industry in Queensland through development and production of projects capable of entertaining and connecting with audiences worldwide, secure production to Queensland, and deliver an active screen culture across the state.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Identify projects for funding through assessment and recommendation in the following programs, as required:

Production Investment and Attachments

Development Investment

Marketing & Travel Grants

SQ Initiatives

Manage a slate of projects from funding through to delivery, providing feedback to practitioners and the Development & Production team.

Manage programs within budget, ensuring applications, assessment, delivery, payment and repayment/recoupment processes run smoothly and are properly recorded, including the management of a pool of external assessors.

Develop and deliver ideas for fresh initiatives, consistent with SQ’s strategic aims and the remit of the Development & Production team, and contribute to the review of program guidelines, terms of trade and contracts to ensure their relevance and ambition.

Work with Development & Production and the wider SQ team to maintain, grow and share market intelligence, develop industry networks in Australia and internationally, and – with responsibility for discovering and tracking talent and projects – promote the Queensland industry through those channels.

Assist with the supervision and direct workflow of the Development & Production Coordinators.

Travel, as required, to key industry events.

Other relevant duties as indicated.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Applicants for the position must address each of the selection criteria in writing. Short listing and selection will be based on the selection criteria.

Practical experience in the analysis, assessment and funding of screen projects.
Demonstrated experience in relevant roles in the Australian and international screen industry.
Experience in/knowledge of development, financing and production of large-scale screen projects.
Demonstrated experience in navigating complex screen productions and negotiating intricate financial deals with a range of partners to deliver positive outcomes.
Engaging and open communication skills, including an ability to engage both creative and business-focused industry practitioners.
Demonstrated ability to prepare recommendation papers, letters, emails and reports using appropriate style and accurate and concise language.
Demonstrated experience in the use of computer software, with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and grants management systems.
A positive and collegiate approach to work, a great attitude and a willingness to work flexibly with the needs of fast moving projects in a busy team.
